As is often the case, this weekend’s North London derby could be season-defining for both clubs and go some way towards deciding their final league positions. A win for Arsenal will keep them well in contention for a Champions League spot following victory over Bournemouth in midweek, while a victory for Spurs should virtually cement the aforementioned prize. The recent head-to-head between these two shows that there’s been very little between them of late, with each winning two and losing two of their last seven clashes.

Spurs, though, haven’t been beaten by Arsenal on their own ground since 2015 and will be eager to extend that run for the foreseeable future at least. The Gunners haven’t been particularly convincing in the Premier League despite a fantastic unbeaten streak prior to Christmas, and I think they’ll come up short here. I like the look of Tottenham coming away with all three points and would be surprised if even money is still available by the time it kicks off.

 

Player Booking Prediction

It’s fairly well documented that Swiss international Granit Xhaka has struggled from a disciplinary perspective since arriving on these shores. An ever-present for Arsenal last season, the 26-year-old has been used a little more sparingly this term but is still, somewhat predictably, fairly prominently placed in the booking charts. The former Basel midfielder has picked up seven cautions up till now and has been prone to losing his head when things get a little heated. If he starts on Saturday – and there’s every reason to believe he will – then I’d say the 12/5 up for grabs on him being shown a yellow card looks massive. Even more so when you consider that Spurs are the home side and will  have more than their fair share of possession in the middle of the park.

Both Teams To Score Prediction

Once upon a time there was an undeniable notion that goals were guaranteed when the two North London clubs locked horns. But for one reason or another, that hasn’t quite been the case of late. Indeed, this fixture evokes fond memories of 4-5, 5-2 and 4-4 scorelines with neutrals up and down the country suitably entertained.

However, it’s been a different story since 2016 and you may be surprised to learn that only one of the last five meetings between Arsenal and Spurs have seen both teams find the net. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if a caginess crept into both sides’ play on Saturday and it’s a solitary moment of quality that separates the two come full-time. Ladbrokes are paying 8/5 on both sides NOT scoring at Wembley this weekend, which looks massive if recent history is anything to go by.
