Jose Mourinho suffered his first defeat in charge of Tottenham against former club, Manchester United on Wednesday. Spurs dropped down to eighth in the league after their 2-1 loss but remain just three points from fifth.

Burnley were unable to stop Manchester City racking up the goals in their 4-1 loss on Tuesday. Their form has been inconsistent of late, with two wins and two losses by three goal margins in the last five.

No one has benefitted more from Mourinho’s arrival than Dele Alli. The Spurs midfielder looks revitalised playing in a more attacking second striker role, often finding himself as the furthest man forward for Tottenham. Four goals in his last three games are proof that the new role is delivering results.

Another beneficiary of the Mourinho appointment is Serge Aurier. The Ivorian has been heavily involved in Tottenham’s attacking play and managed two shots in his last match, equal with Alli and Kane. He has already scored under Mourinho and will remain a constant gaol threat if he keeps getting in advanced positions.

Spurs have looked an improved side under Mourinho but there are still issues. They haven’t kept a clean sheet in the league since September and looked vulnerable at the back against Manchester United. Eleven goals in four games suggests that Mourinho’s Spurs will continue to be effective in front of goal.

Spurs are priced at 4/11 to beat Burnley. A draw is priced at 7/2 whilst an away win is available at 13/2.

Harry Kane is the bookies’ favourite to score first at 5/2 followed by Heung-Min Son at 4/1.
