It’s generally accepted that Barcelona aren’t quite the force of old, particularly given that the likes of Andres Iniesta, Xavi and Neymar are no longer at the club. Arguably not as star-studded as they once were, Barca are still a tremendous side and wouldn’t be comfortably top of La Liga were that not the case. The Catalans are looking for their fifth successive Copa del Rey win this season and that looks well in their grasp once again, albeit a trip to Sevilla is never a given.

Barcelona struggled to get past lowly Leganes at the weekend but their quality did eventually shine through – and I expect there to be a similar story for my Sevilla vs Barcelona predictions tonight. I can see the visitors edging out their hosts in a tight affair in which goals are scarce, which makes a mockery of the 5/1 available on Barcelona winning and under 2.5 goals.

With Lionel Messi breaking records left, right and centre, it’s easy to forget that Barcelona possess another player with statistics not too far adrift of his coveted teammate. I am of course talking about Luis Suarez, who boasts a ferocious strike-rate equivalent to a goal every 110 minutes since arriving in Spain. It’s no surprise that Messi is the country’s highest scorer but equally no surprise that Suarez is just behind him in the charts.

The Uruguayan hitman has bagged 15 so far this campaign and remains a focal point of a team clearly blessed with much attacking talent. You can barely get 1/2 on Messi scoring anytime here so why not take a chance on Suarez at 10/11 in the Sevilla vs Barcelona betting tips – particularly when his stats aren’t really too far adrift of Barca’s all-time greatest player.

Make no bones about it, Sevilla are a decent side enjoying a reasonable season and would be extremely content with fourth place should they still occupy a Champions League spot come May. But they’re not particularly free-scoring on their own ground generally speaking, even though they are hard to beat. Just a solitary defeat in front of their own fans pays testament to the theory that this won’t be easy for Barcelona, but I still envisage an away victory. For whatever reason, Los Hispalenses don’t seem to raise their game when they play Barca as evidenced by their failure to win in each of the previous ten encounters between these two sides. I don’t think Ernesto Valverde’s men will dish out a whipping here and they’ll be very content just to take a lead back to the Nou Camp, which is why a low-scoring Barcelona win appeals so much. You can get longer than 2/1 on either a 0-1 or 0-2 scoreline and that jumps off the page to me.
