It seems strange to say that Mo Salah has faced a degree of criticism this season, and doubters will likely point to him failing to score against another perceived top side when Liverpool beat Tottenham last weekend. The Egyptian remains unperturbed however, citing the fact that many of the pundits slating him are simultaneously claiming that Sergio Aguero has enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career.

Salah’s point – and it seems a valid one – is that City’s star striker has only scored a couple of goals more than he currently as, making the disparity in the analysis somewhat strange.

Whatever your thoughts, there’s no denying that the former Chelsea attacker has had another very impressive campaign and sits top of Liverpool’s goalscoring charts for a second successive year. He’ll be looking to add a few more goals to his tally before the season is over, and what better place to start than his club’s next match?

Liverpool have come through some cagey affairs recently and you very much get the feeling that this could be another of those. Southampton are a different side under Hasenhuttl’s stewardship and the fact they’ve scored in each of their last four Premier League fixtures suggests that Virgil van Dijk will have to maintain the excellent form that ultimately led to him swapping St. Mary’s for Anfield.

I certainly don’t envisage this being a walk in the park for the visitors, but there’s no doubt they have the quality to edge out their opponents in a tight contest. For that reason, a 1-2 scoreline appeals and is 7/1 with Sportingbet.
