Manchester City to win

Newly promoted Sheffield United have lost both of their opening two games on their return to the Premier League, which isn’t the best of form when you are getting ready to welcome champions, Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side have won their opening two, starting with a 0-3 win over Burnley, before beating Newcastle 1-0 last weekend. Between those two, they defeated Sevilla on penalties in the UEFA Super Cup. I expect City to win this one comfortably.

 

Julian Alvarez to score

Julian Alvarez is often overlooked and overshadowed as a Manchester City striker, as he competes with none other than Erling Haaland for a place in the City starting 11. However, when he has featured for them, he has been hugely impressive. In last week’s win over Newcastle, he started in behind Haaland in a three, joined by Phil Foden and Jack Grealish, and he scored the only goal of the game as they went on to victory. He started in this position in their first game of the season as well, so I expect him to be there again. He will get a number of chances in this one and I expect him to take at least one of them.

 

Gustavo Hamer to be booked

Gustavo Hamer was known for picking up a booking or two when he was a Coventry City player in the Championship last season. He signed for Sheffield United following their promotion to the Prem, and I don’t think that stat will change for Hamer this season. He picked up eight yellow cards and two reds last season, averaging 1.80 fouls per game. I think he is great odds to pick up a booking in this one, as his side will spend the majority of the 90 minutes without the ball and trying to stop City attacks.
