England’s World Cup 2022 Top Scorer Betting Odds & Our Predictions
The race to become England’s top goalscorer at the 2022 World Cup looks an obvious one with Harry Kane, but can any of the other forwards upset the odds and be England’s World Cup top goalscorer?
Goals haven’t come easily for Gareth Southgate’s England side of late. While last time out they earned a 3-3 draw with Germany, prior to that the team had scored just one in five, again, a draw with Germany at the beginning of June.
It’s certainly caused concern for England fans, but now as we enter the World Cup all eyes will be on those players who can potentially find the back of the net for the Three Lions.
Of course, many players already have pedigree in this competition, and Southgate will certainly be looking to his captain as one of the main goal providers, but who else could be challenging for England’s top scorer?
Well, the bookies have had their say and here’s who Paddy Power are favouring in the England top scorer market…
Harry Kane – 4/6
Harry Kane is of course favourite to finish as England’s top scorer. Not only is he an elite striker who has proven it on the world stage, picking up the Golden Boot back in 2018, he’s also in great form for Spurs having netted 11 goals in 14 games in the Premier League.
It’s come at a good time for Southgate, with the nation relying upon their captain to lead from the front.
Raheem Sterling – 3/1
Raheem Sterling has often faced criticism from the media and fans, and it seems like that’s happening again with him not quite at the peak of his powers at Chelsea.
The 27-year-old has found the net five times in 18 games for Graham Potter’s side but has also proven before just how key he can be in major tournaments, scoring the winning goals against both Croatia and the Czech Republic at the Euros, as well as netting against Germany and earning the penalty to secure progression against Denmark.
He’s 3/1 to top score for England this winter, and if Kane is enduring an off spell, he has every chance.
Phil Foden – 13/2
Phil Foden has just two England goals to his name but he is thriving at Manchester City this season, having bagged six in 13 games in the league, including a hat-trick against Manchester United.
He isn’t guaranteed a starting place for the Three Lions, but he will be important and no doubt will get his name on the scoresheet in Qatar.
Mason Mount – 7/1
Similarly, Mason Mount will be fighting for a place on the team rather than being a guaranteed starter for his country.
Another player that has come under fire of late, but Southgate is a fan and he could well work his way into the starting eleven. However, it’s a long shot for him to be the man to bag the most for his country.
Ollie Watkins – 7/1
Ollie Watkins is also perhaps more of an outside shot and the 7/1 odds given by Paddy Power don’t seem the greatest value.
Watkins has netted just twice for Aston Villa this season and is not guaranteed to even be in Southgate’s squad for the tournament at present.
Bukayo Saka – 9/1
Saka is a much better outside bet. He’s guaranteed to be in the squad and he is a favourite of Southgate’s, with the gaffer having a lot of trust in the young Arsenal player.
Saka has been playing well for Arsenal this season and he could have every chance of taking Raheem Sterling’s spot on form alone. He’s scored four and provided six assists for his Gunners teammates in the Premier League so far, and is level with Kevin de Bruyne when it comes to the two combined.
He could be instrumental in England’s success this summer, and that could see him net frequently.

The Best of the Rest
With Southgate’s starting eleven far from set, there is still an opportunity for players to impress in training and in their final game before the squad is announced.
The bookies are pricing Jack Grealish as a 10/1 shot on finishing England’s top scorer, despite the City star having been directly involved with few goals so far this season, while Marcus Rashford, who has returned to form under Erik ten Hag, is priced at 20/1 as he pushes for a start.
England Top Goalscorer Prediction World Cup 2022
It is not very often we would look at such a short price for a betting tip but it is simply difficult to look past HARRY KANE (4/6 with Paddy Power) to be England’s World Cup top scorer in Qatar.
The Tottenham man won the World Cup Golden Boot four years ago and in a group including Iran, USA and Wales, you would expect Kane to net two or three goals here.
As an outsider bet for England top scorer, MARCUS RASHFORD (20/1 with Paddy Power) would be a speculative selection. He has hit some form for Manchester United at just the right time and Southgate is a fan of him. How many minutes he gets on the pitch will be crucial to this bet but if England have a disastrous tournament and crash out early, anybody with a couple of goals to their name could still win the England top scorer accolade.
