World Cup Quiz: Can You Name Every England World Cup Goalscorer?

It’s been quite a while since England had a man quite like Harry Kane. The Tottenham star is already 12 goals into an international career where most fans are tipping him to break Wayne Rooney’s record 53.

He’ll head to Russia this year carrying high hopes and is one of the favourites in the Euro 2020 top goalscorer betting tips. Kane has never been to a World Cup and didn’t quite set the world alight at the Euros two years ago. He’s a different player to then though and has proved himself at the highest level.

We’re all hoping he gets a hatful during the World Cup Group Stage and goes on to join a very tiny group of Englishmen to top score at the tournament. That group is currently singular, and perhaps highlights how some former strikers have underperformed for the Three Lions in tournaments gone by.

Forty players have scored at the tournament since England first entered way back in 1950, the player with the most having scored 10 across two tournaments. There are some notable absences in Frank Lampard, who memorably had a goal ruled out against Germany in 2010,  Paul Gascoigne and Kevin Keegan, having appeared in only one World Cup match during his career.

Perhaps only one of those players in the 40 has a realistic chance of making Russia 2018 having netted back in 2014. The likes of Raheem Sterling, Dele Alli, Jamie Vardy and Marcus Rashford will all be wanting to get off the mark this summer.
